Copper Kitchen Sinks

The rich patina of copper is usually limited to pots and pans, but copper kitchen sinks are used for a stylish, unique look.

You must take special care when installing copper kitchen sinks. The thicker the copper – preferably between 14 and 18 gauge – the better, so it won’t dent or make loud sounds when dishes are put into it.

Keep in mind that the copper finish you buy won’t be the copper finish you end up with. Copper changes colors over time, going from a bright finish to a deeper, darker brown finish depending on how much oxygen the copper is exposed to. The sink may even turn green in some spots. You can control the color with sanding and polishing.

You can not leave empty dishes or standing water in copper kitchen sinks, because it can stain the sink. Chemicals, strong acids and abrasive cleaners can damage or change the color of the sink.
